Work out how many gallons a room needs — wall area minus doors and windows, times your coats, divided by real coverage.

How this is calculated

Wall area is your total wall length times ceiling height. Each door is deducted at 21 sq ft and each window at 15 sq ft. That net area is multiplied by your number of coats and divided by the coverage on the paint can — 350 sq ft per gallon is a common figure for a smooth, previously painted wall. Porous, textured, or bare surfaces drink more, so drop the coverage number when the wall is rough.

Estimates only. Real pricing depends on your prep, your paint, your crew, and your market.
